Ready, Set, Ban! End the Dog & Cat Meat Trade in South Korea
Dog and cat meat is a hot button issue, particularly in countries where dogs and cats are considered friends, not food, and most people wouldn’t dream of eating them. South Korea is one of several countries changing its relationship with dogs and cats. In the run up to the Winter Olympics next month, the nation has taken a positive step and imposed restrictions on certain dog and cat meat markets. Now is a vital time to urge a permanent outright ban on dog and cat meat once and for all!
End the Imprisonment of Big Cats
Tigers, lions, jaguars, and other large felines belong in the wild. Unfortunately, somewhere between 10,000 and 20,000 of these wild creatures are kept in captivity in the United States as pets or in roadside zoos. Wildcats require large territories, and although some may appear tame when caged or confined, they are not able to be truly domesticated. Keeping these majestic animals in small spaces restricts their freedom of movement and expression of natural behavior, and is incredibly cruel.
Incredible Victory for Nosey & How You Can Help All Elephants
For decades, In Defense of Animals has advocated on behalf of captive elephants, and one elephant in particular who was relentlessly abused for years on end. We are delighted to share the wonderful news that Nosey, the "poster elephant" for captive elephants (pictured here enjoying her new life), has finally been set free. Her beaming success story inspires us with great hope for all elephants remaining in captivity, especially those stuck in the Ten Worst Zoos. With your help, In Defense of Animals can continue to expose the shocking suffering of elephants in circuses and zoos and advocate for these exceptional animals to remain in the wild, where they belong.
