elephant NedDeath of Elephant Ned

We are deeply saddened to report that the elephant Ned, who was confiscated by the USDA in November 2008 and sent to The Elephant Sanctuary, thanks to the diligence of IDA, has passed away. Ned's sad life was filled with abuse and suffering, but in his last six months he finally experienced love, caring and trust. Read Ned's story, then send an e-mail to the USDA.

guardian4_jpgMay Is Animal Guardian Month

May is Animal Guardian Month, a time to celebrate our relationships with the animals who share our lives. IDA's Guardian Campaign envisions a world in which we acknowledge and appreciate the magnitude of the bond between humans and nonhumans. The humane and humble term “guardian,” especially when compared to "owner," evokes the subtle qualities of care, respect, responsibility, and empathy.

rat1_jpgWall Street Journal Front Page Story Highlights Rat Defenders

Rats and mice are 90% of the victims of animal experiments conducted in university laboratories and other research facilities in the U.S. The Animal Welfare Act excludes rats and mice from protections offered to bigger and "cuter" animals. Meet some people who are trying to change that, then post your thoughts.
