tina jewel queenie june 2009Elephant Update - Keep Up The Pressure To Rescue Tina, Jewel, And Queenie

Thank you for calling and writing to Congress and the USDA on behalf of Tina, Jewel and Queenie, the three elephants suffering at the hands of trainer Will Davenport, a chronic violator of federal animal welfare law. The USDA received so many calls that it set up a special team to handle them. And the elephants' scheduled engagements with the Shrine Circus in Idaho were cancelled, thanks to letters from IDA and our loyal members.

We are confident that only a little more pressure is necessary to achieve our goal: confiscation of the elephants and transfer to a sanctuary. Please, even if you've responded before to our appeals for these elephants, click here, read the latest update, and then send another e-mail to your representatives. Click here if you'd rather skip the update and go straight to our automatic letter-sending tool which will send these e-mails for you in 2 minutes or less. Please don't give up on Tina, Jewel, and Queenie.

Korean dogsJuly 14 - Speak Up For Dogs And Cats Killed For Food In Korea

Two million South Korean dogs are electrocuted, strangled, or bludgeoned to death each year. Eating dogs and cats is illegal in South Korea, but the ban is not enforced. South Korea is one of the few places in the world where dog and cat meat is still eaten. On Tuesday July 14, activists in at least 19 cities around the world will converge on South Korean Embassies and Consulates, protesting the cruelty associated with South Korea's dog and cat meat trade.

At the Korean Consulate in San Francisco, IDA will release a new video parody of Korean cuisine, with undercover footage of the dog markets. IDA will also present 18,209 signed petitions asking the South Korean government to enforce its own laws banning the consumption of dogs and cats. In New York, Golden Girls actress Rue McClanahan will be appearing at the Korean Consulate on Park Avenue.

lucille starving horse project hopeHorse Cruelty Case Strikes A Nerve With Rescuer

A message from IDA's Doll Stanley: "As the director of IDA’s Project Hope Sanctuary in Mississippi, I encounter many heartbreaking situations. All are “the worst” in their own way, but one recent case has me very upset. I was told of a starving horse. At first, the information festered in my brain with the multiple pleas to help imperiled animals - we receive so many. On the way home from transporting other rescued animals, I went to investigate."
