ida africa chimpanzee Chimpanzee Update - Progress From Africa To Louisiana

IDA and IDA Africa come to the aid of abused chimpanzees, be they in captivity, in the wild, or in laboratories. See what IDA is doing with your donations to help chimpanzees.

Our progress has been precedent-setting. Our successes are many. IDA Africa's Sanaga-Yong Center in Cameroon is now home to nearly 70 chimpanzees who delight in their 60-acre forest sanctuary. They swing and play freely in the vines, nest happily in the trees, and doze peacefully in the warm tropical sun.

In the U.S., years of documentation, undercover investigations, and exposés of abuse, fraud, and waste are finally opening the door to significant change. Click here to read all about it, and see how you can help!

elephant_gita_memorial_jpgIDA Exposes Another L.A. Zoo Cover-up - USDA Fines Zoo In Death Of Elephant Gita

This week, IDA again exposed the Los Angeles Zoo’s attempt to hide the truth, revealing that it paid a paltry USDA penalty of $3,281 for its failure to provide adequate veterinary care to the elephant Gita, as she lay dying overnight in June 2006. Gita's memorial is pictured, left. The fine also included the death of a chimpanzee in July 2006, making the amount even more shockingly scant. rodeo goat tyingAction Alert - Please Protest Goat Tying Event At Rodeo

The Hayward Junior Rodeo takes place at the Rowell Ranch in Hayward, California on August 1 & 2. This rodeo is for children ages 6 to 18, and will feature 19 different events. Of particular concern are the calf roping, bull riding, and goat tying events.

Goat tying is especially traumatic for the animals. A young goat is tethered at one end of the arena. A child on horseback gallops to the goat, dismounts, then throws and ties the hapless and terrified animal. Sometimes the horse runs right over the goat. Click here to read more, see a YouTube video, and learn what you can do to help.
